Patients
With Kidney Disease May Benefit From Diet High In Fruits,
Vegetables
The CNN (11/22, Curley) "The Chart"
blog reported that consumption of fruits and vegetables
may "have positive effects on kidney disease."
For the study, researchers placed 40 "patients with
moderately reduced kidney function on a diet high in fruits
and vegetables."
Medscape (11/22, Melville) reported, "Patients were
given a 30-day diet that added fruits and vegetables, such
as potatoes, raisins, grapes, apples, and other foods while
avoiding some fruits and vegetables that were high in potassium."
Notably, "at the end of the 30-day period, all patients
showed reduced excretion of three key indicators of kidney
injury: albumin, transforming growth factor ß, and
N-acetyl-ß-D-glucosaminidase."
